NEWS: Norfolks Proper New Markets Programme

Aylsham is launching some exciting and interesting new ideas for the market place, the following press release has been issued by ABEF:

Aylsham Market Place is growing. ABEF are working in partnership with Broadland District Council, Aylsham Town Council and Aylsham Cittaslow committee to create at a programme of special markets and events throughout the year in Aylsham Market Place

We want our markets to be a centre for creative and entrepreneurial talent in Norfolk making Aylsham a market place of ideas. The markets will not just be about selling; you could bring an idea to market, showcase a design, demonstrate a skill, exchange knowledge or debate the latest news.  We hope Aylsham market place will be a place to enjoy musical and artistic talent alongside the market stalls, hold art exhibitions with a contemporary twist, host a technology exchange, create Norfolk’s first Speakers Corner to debate latest ideas or news and become a place just to sit, take a drink and meet new friends or business contacts. The programme will be varied and open to all types of businesses – new or established, market pitches will be offered at a special rate to start-up businesses and young people.

With the commitment and drive of the ABEF project champions we are going to create something different, exciting and vibrant. A place to gather, shop, debate and relax, Aylsham will be a place to visit and enjoy, not just pass through. If you want to be here at the start of something quite amazing, if you have the vision to see how little ideas become great opportunities, we would love to hear from you. The programme will start with the development of markets on Saturdays. Aylsham already has a successful farmers’ market on the 1st Saturday of each month with a much smaller farmers’ market on the third Saturday of each month.

Phase one of the project is develop and expand the 3rd farmers’ market, in the interim we are offering market pitches for £6.00 to non food producers, these stalls will run alongside the farmers market until it is developed. We are then planning a selection of one-off markets throughout the year our first being the 29th September following this we will look to start implementing the markets on the 4th Saturday of each month. We have arranged a continental market for the 19th October. Finally the launch of Aylsham Frost Fayre, a three day winter market from 29th November to 1st December this year and expand it for following years.
